The University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), founded in 1951 as a senior Business cadre School under the Ministry of Trade of the Central People's Government, has a long history. It is the first institution of higher learning in New China to train specialized talents in foreign trade. 1953 It was renamed Beijing Foreign Trade College. In 1954, the major of Foreign trade was merged into Renmin University of China, and the school was renamed Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade. In 1960, it was selected as a national key higher education institution, and in 1964, it was selected as a key foreign language education development institution. In 1978, Beijing Institute of Foreign Trade became a unit directly under the Ministry of Foreign Trade. In 1983, the school merged with the School of International Economics and Management under the State Import and Export Administration Commission. 1984 It was renamed University of International Business and Economics. In 1997, it was selected into the national "211 Project" key construction university. In 1987, the China Institute of Finance was established under the People's Bank of China. In 2000, the University of International Business and Economics merged with the China Institute of Finance and Economics, and was put under the management of the Ministry of Education. In 2010, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Commerce signed an agreement to jointly build the University of International Business and Economics. In 2017, the university was selected as one of the first national "double first-class" construction universities.
