Firstly, ingredient characteristics
1. Carbon content
The core feature of cast carbon steel is its carbon content, usually between 2.5% and 4.0%. Carbon is an important element that determines its hardness, strength, and toughness. The high carbon content gives castings high hardness and wear resistance, making them suitable for situations that withstand large impacts and wear.

 

2. Alloy elements
In addition to carbon, cast carbon steel may also contain alloying elements such as silicon, manganese, sulfur, and phosphorus. Silicon can improve the fluidity of castings, increase their tensile strength and hardness; Manganese helps to refine grains, enhance toughness, and reduce sensitivity to notches; Although sulfur and phosphorus are beneficial to the fluidity of castings within a certain range, excessive amounts can cause thermal and cold brittleness, so their content needs to be strictly controlled.

The production of cast carbon steel mainly includes four steps: melting, batching, pouring, and post-treatment:
1. Melting
Heat scrap steel, pig iron, and other raw materials into an electric furnace or cupola until melted, forming molten iron.

 

2. Ingredients
According to the required carbon steel grade and performance requirements, add corresponding proportions of carbon powder, silicon iron, manganese iron and other alloy elements to the molten iron for adjustment to ensure that the chemical composition meets the standards.

 

3. Pouring
Quickly inject the prepared molten iron into a preheated and coated mold (such as sand mold, metal mold, etc.), and wait for it to cool and solidify into shape. During this process, the pouring temperature, speed, and sequence should be controlled to reduce internal defects in the casting.

 

4. Post processing

After cooling, castings undergo processes such as sand drop, cleaning, heat treatment (such as annealing, normalizing, quenching, etc.), and surface treatment (such as painting, electroplating, etc.) to eliminate internal stress, improve organizational structure, enhance surface quality, and meet performance requirements under specific usage conditions.

 

Thirdly, application areas
Due to its excellent casting performance, mechanical properties, and economy, cast carbon steel is widely used in various fields such as mechanical equipment, building structures, transportation vehicles, mining equipment, and agricultural machinery, including:

1. Mechanical equipment components
Such as machine bed, gear box, pump casing, valve body, etc., utilize their high strength, wear resistance, and good casting adaptability.

Such as bridge bearings, steel structural connectors, building decorative components, etc., utilize their high load-bearing capacity and environmental corrosion resistance.
